An alert for 26-year-old Peter Lafromboise was issued Friday. On Wednesday, an alert went out for 16-year-old Mariya Crespin but she has since been found.
Update on April 21st at 11:50: According the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, 16-year-old Mariya Crespin of the Dakota tribe was found safely Friday morning. She was last seen on March 19 and an alert was issues on April 19.
A second Missing Indigenous Person Alert has been issued this week, this time for a 26-year-old man who was last seen more than nine days ago.
Peter Lafromboise was last seen in Denver on April 12 and family members were last in contact with him on April 9, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. The department issued the alert this morning.
CBI said Lafromboise is an Indigenous man, with brown hair and eyes, along with tattoos on both of his hands. He’s around 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 280 pounds.
CBI added that Lafromboise is currently experiencing homelessness in the Denver area.
The first alert was issued on Wednesday for 16-year-old Mariya Crespin of the Dakota tribe. She was last seen leaving the 300 block of South Meade Street on March 19. CBI described Crespin as 5 feet, 2 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on Lafromboise’s or Crespin’s whereabouts can call the Denver Police Department at (720) 913-2000.
The Missing Indigenous Person Alert is a new statewide tool that is meant to help solve more crimes in the Indigenous community, which sees a disproportionately high rate of missing people and homicide cases when compared to other racial or ethnic groups.
The tool launched in December and functions similarly to Amber alerts for missing children, as well as other existing alert programs for missing adults and senior citizens.
Since the launch, 12 alerts have gone out, including the alerts for Lafromboise and Crespin, according to CBI. They are the only active cases.
The first alert went out on Jan. 3 for 27-year-old Wanbli Vigil. He was later found dead. The others were found safely. The most recent person to be found was 23-year-old Arianna Blue. She went missing on April 5 and her alert was deactivated this morning.
This story has been updated to note Crespin was found safely this morning and with more information on the alert system program.
